Lucky That Way Farm is located in the hills of Four Mile Township in Wayne County, between Bluford and Keenes, Illinois . We are a small diverse Family Farm. Our Farm consist of woodlands, fence rows, streams, tillable farmland, green pastures, and a large lake. We keep a balance of raising livestock, and maintaining quality wildlife habitat.
My name is John, a Sustainable Farmer, promoter, purveyor, and preservationist of Rare & Heritage breeds of Livestock, I live here with my wife Tonia and our three handsome & talented sons. My wife and I were both raised on small family farms with Christian values, and have passed those values and hard working ideals on to our children.
We raise Gloucestershire Old Spots pigs, Llamas, Shetland Sheep Dogs, a few donkeys and horses. For our own use and sustainablilty, we also keep a milk cow, some chickens, Aylesbury Ducks, and we also raise vegetables from our Garden, make Maple Syrup, butter, sour cream, and our own cheese.
Our livestock is naturally grown without the use of antibiotics or steroids in the feed. Just good clean water, locally grown grain, minerals, and pasture or hay depending on the season. Our pigs farrow in huts or in a stall in the barn, I do not own a farrowing crate or own a hog that has been in one. We try to keep our feeding program and housing as simple and as cost effective as we can. Not because I sell my livestock, but because we eat our own home grown pork, beef, eggs and milk.
We produce high quality tasty pork from our Registered Herd of Gloucestershire Old Spots. Our feeding program achieves proper marbling, and that nice red color that Gloucestershire Old Spots are known for in their meat. This marbling that gives our pork that Old Fashioned taste. It's not just the other white meat, it is actually juicy pork and does not taste like chicken. We have pigs available year round as breeders or to butcher. Available in whole or 1/2 hogs, also Cottage Pigs or (roasters), and Suckling Pigs upon request. All butcher hogs are by private treaty. This means seller and buyer come to an agreement on pricing.
